what is asn?
autonomous system number, the public id of a network that announces its own blocks of ip addresses on the internet.
every routable address belongs to an autonomous system: an isp, a mobile carrier, a hosting company, a university, a large bank. the number is public and so is the list of prefixes each one announces through bgp, so anyone can map an ip to its operator instantly. as15169 is google, as7922 is comcast cable. anti bot systems do exactly that lookup first, and use it as a coarse filter. hosting and cloud asns get challenged or refused, consumer isp and mobile carrier asns get treated as ordinary visitors. that single check accounts for most of the price gap between datacenter and residential bandwidth. asn also works as a selector in the other direction. when a target only behaves normally for a particular network's customers, or when you want carrier diversity in a mobile job, you can request exits on a specific asn. myx supports asn targeting on residential and mobile.
